Hate has no place in Hamilton. It’s sad that in 2022 we still need to periodically make such a declaration. As candidate for Mayor of Hamilton, I condemn all actions of hate like the break and enter being investigated as an anti-semitic hate crime committed on September 6 against a family in Hamilton’s Jewish community.
With our presence at over a dozen events in August and booths at Cactus Fest and Peach Fest, we connected with so many great individuals in our community who care about making change. Many have come on as volunteers, others as supporters. We’ve knocked on doors, we’ve made calls, and we’ve engaged with anyone and everyone interested in what we’re doing.
To demonstrate his commitment to engage with communities across Hamilton, Loomis will host a ‘Town Hall Tour’ in the run-up to the election. The pre-election tour will be open to the public and allow residents of many communities, including Ancaster, Dundas, Stoney Creek, Binbrook, Flamborough, and Hamilton to meet with Loomis and discuss top-of-mind issues relevant to them.
“Being home to Ontario’s worst road is not something any of us in Hamilton are proud of,” said Loomis. “It’s embarrassing and it’s dangerous for the people driving, walking and cycling on our roads every day. Our plan provides Hamiltonians with the safe, reliable roads they deserve, and gives them a direct line to decision-makers when the quality of our roads isn’t up to snuff.”
When I decided to run for mayor in early 2022, I committed myself to have honest, authentic conversations with Hamiltonians from all communities, diverse groups and all walks of life. This past month, we have continued to lead with this commitment.
We have canvassed nearly all of Hamilton’s neighbourhoods and have had booths at the Festival of Friends and Pride Festival – the only mayoral candidate to do so thus far. Each conversation has better taught me what the people of Hamilton want, and what they need.
Homes for Hamilton aims to build 50,000 new homes across the city, creating jobs and increasing the supply of housing with the goal of bringing down costs for renters and buyers, and building healthy and complete communities. The plan focuses on hiring staff to speed up approvals of new housing, implementing new housing along major transit lines, and to bring gentle density to established neighbourhoods. This will be done while respecting and preserving the character, heritage and aesthetic of our communities.
We are devastated about another fatality on our roads and another child injured while crossing city streets. We commit to learning from every road fatality and serious injury so that no other families have to go through this pain. We will act to make streets safer.
With the early phase of the campaign behind us, we have three and a half months to go before we bring change to City Hall on October 24th. We thought now would be an excellent time to tally up a few of our wins over the first stretch of the campaign and provide you with a summer update.
On Wednesday, June 29, 2022, LiUNA Canada announced its endorsement for Mayoral Candidate Keanin Loomis. Keanin met with LiUNA’s Leadership Executive Team to discuss the municipal race. They discussed issues important to the growth and function of our city, including: affordable housing, homelessness, development of LRT and supporting businesses, childcare, and red tape reduction.
